About the Mural
By Jarrett Ferrier, Schwa Design Group

Many, many individuals have stopped to inquire about my work so I thought a story and maybe a photo or two could be informative to your readers!

A mural that adorned the building at 3471 N. Washington Blvd has been removed to make way for a new mural for Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company. The subject matter of the previous mural, painted in 1997 by Patrick Kirwin, was a cat admiring a cut loaf of stollen bread.

Rocklands has commissioned a DC muralist, Jarrett Ferrier, to create a day in the life in 1952. A 1952 GMC truck sits in front of a store as a man points out a cardinal (Virginia's state bird) to children as his daughter tugs his arm eager for a gum ball. A dog sits patiently in front of the truck while a seated woman looks on. The mural is human scale and employs dramatic light and shadows to help create depth to an otherwise flat wall.

Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company was first established in 1990 in Glover Park in Washington, DC. Previously they served great barbeque at Carpool in Arlington. They currently have locations in Rockville, Washington, DC, Alexandria and now, thankfully, back in ARLINGTON!

The mural is probably one quarter complete and if Mother Nature allows it should be completed by mid November.

Please contact me at 202-338-1800 with any questions regarding the mural. If you have questions about Rocklands you can contact Anne Chapman at 202-337-1925.

Thank you for your time and interest.

Most Sincerely,

Jarrett Ferrier
